We have had Dick and Doc for a wonderful 4,5 years and we are only letting them go because we are getting out of the sleigh driving and carriage driving business to do horse back rides only. I cannot say enough good things about these two boys: They are stunning, they look almost exactly the same, they are gentle and sweet to be around and they have NEVER caused any kind of wreck or problem. They have done a lot of work for us over the years. In the summer we use them for the occasional wagon or wedding carriage ride and in the winter they really go to work pulling a sleigh all day long. They pull very straight and evenly and are light in the bit. We use only snaffle bits on both of them. They are a pleasure to drive! We do not have to warm them up before we hitch them up.
We bought them from a gentleman in Custer, SD who had used them for wagon rides at a campground in the summer. They are very powerful horses. Our big sleigh weights 2000 lbs and they can pull it with a full load of 12-14 people all day long. They are not the kind of team that you can just hitch up without them being tied or held but they are good to work with and have NEVER RAN OFF. We have used them in a busy resort. They are good with tight spaces and used to slow road traffic. I never drove a horse in a parade so I don't know at which point stuff would be enough for them, but I never had to find out. They are always healthy and are good about having their feet worked on. I never had to shoe them. They carry good weight. They do weigh 2000lbs, I have had them on a scale. I have a good used biothane harness available for sale that fits them (see pictures).
